PARKINSON'S MOVEMENT TRAINING

PARKINSON'S REHABILITATION

Primary symptoms of Parkinson's Disease are:

- Trembling in hands, arms, legs, jaw, and face

- Rigidity, or stiffness of the limbs and trunk

- Slowness of movement

- Postural instability

- Impaired balance and coordination.

As these symptoms become more pronounced, patients may have difficulty walking, talking, or completing other simple tasks. PD usually affects people over the age of 60, but can also occur in younger individuals.

HOW PHYSICAL THERAPY CAN HELP

LVST BIG

Studies suggest an enormous capacity of the Parkinson's Disease (PD) brain to reshape itself in response to a specific exercise. We offer two research-based programs specifically developed to help people with PD.

LSVT BIG® and PWR® are paid for by Medicare and PPO insurance.

LSVT BIG® is an exercise treatment program developed specifically for patients with Parkinson's Disease based on the principle that the brain can always learn and change. Research shows that LSVT BIG® training leads to:

Faster walking with bigger steps

Better balance

Increased trunk rotation

Improved emotional and cognitive abilities

Sustained improvements in movements that last up to three months post-treatment

Improved quality of life

PWR!® (Parkinson Wellness Recovery) is a Parkinson's Disease-specific exercise program shown through research to reduce symptoms, restore function, and improve quality of life, with a promise to slow disease progression.

Parkinson’s Disease affects each patient a little differently. That is why our physical therapists will develop a personalized treatment plan to optimize your movement, improve your activity level, and to help you become as independent as possible and to improve your activity level. The earlier you begin with a Parkinson's-specific exercise program, the better response you will have to treatment. Your personalized treatment plan can do the following:
